In the beginning of humanity, the human physical form was different from our modern conception. ... As punishment, each of them was divided in half, leaving both sides longing for the half from which it was severed. Therefore, we can understand the human search for love and companionship as an attempt to become whole again. We can also see how this division of the self is applicable to the concept of self-love: It is only when we rediscover and embrace our true selves, that we feel self-love and wholeness.
