... Is it how someone acts, what they wear or whats beneath what they wear that forms their gender identity and sexuality? Even factors such as how one wears their hair or what music they listen to can have an impact on how society views their sexual orientation. Throughout the movies But Im a Cheerleader and Edge of Seventeen, we see many examples of sexuality and gender stereotyping. When compared to the general perception of our society, we see that gender stereotypes indirectly shape ones sexual identity.
The movie But Im a Cheerleader best illustrates the idea of sexual and gender identity becoming intertwined with popular social stereotypes. The film blatantly states that men and woman have different roles in sex, society and day-to-day life.
