Teleological vs deontological views on moral dilemas

Moral Dilemma

     Often in a persons life they will run across moral dilemmas: To lie or tell the truth, to cheat or receive a bad grade, to steal or spend a lot of money. ... In this paper I will compare the teleological and deontological theories of morality, and use them to decide which of two immoral actions is considered to be more correct.
     When dealing with teleological theories of morality, we focus on the outcome rather than the action. Because of this, the teleological theory is also referred to as the end-based theory of morality. ... There were many followers of the teleological theories, including; Plato, Aristotle, and Mill. Utilitarianism also falls under teleological principles, and focuses on the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest number of people.
     On the contrary, we consider deontological theories of morality. ... The main supporter of the deontological view was Kant. Kant examines the morality of actions based on what motivates them, and accordingly, only believes that an action is moral if it comes from internal sanctions.
