Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England on February 12, 1809. Darwin’s father was Robert Waring Darwin, who was a physician, and his mother was Susannah Wedgewood. Darwin was also the grandson of the great poet-philosopher-naturalist, Erasmus Darwin (“Darwin, Charles” 41). To Darwin, School was simply a blank, and he did not progress brilliantly through it. Darwin attended Shrewsbury School until he was sixteen years old. Darwin did not do well in school, but he started to become interested in animals, horse riding, and hunting. After attending Shrewsbury School, Darwin set off to Edinburgh University. Darwin went to Edinburgh University to become a doctor, but he could not stand seeing illness and could not stand the sight of blood (The Life and Times of Charles Robert Darwin). Also, Darwin did not want to become a physician because he observed medical observations being performed without the use of any anesthesia (“Darwin, Charles” 41). Darwin then started to become interested in geology and natural history. ... Darwin would eventually get his Bachelor of Medicine degree (The Life and Times of Charles Robert Darwin). As a student, Darwin “showed little interest in his early education at Shrewsbury School and in medical studies at Edinburgh University” (“Darwin, Charles” 41). In 1828, Darwin went to Christ College in Cambridge to study theology. If Darwin were not to become a doctor, he might have become a clergyman (The Life and Times of Charles Robert Darwin).
However, Darwin’s education did not prevent him from doing his geological research.
