Ainsley Karl-Cannon English 110 Section 74 Dr. Campbell November 30th 2003 CHAPTER 10: WEIGHT DEBATE THESIS INTRO Through many differing commercials the media is giving viewers false hopes for huge results. The media is influencing/causing viewers to become ‘fat phobic’; dreading the thought of fitting into the category of “overweight”; through harmful television and print images. Through a wide range of images and techniques television has caused us to believe they are showing the perfect body. We are programmed to think that only those with perfect bodies have great lives and live happily ever after. Make-up is shown on the prettiest of faces with flawless skin. We are programmed to think that this look is possible for everyone, that if you try hard enough you too can become a model. Turn on your TV at any given time and the chances of seeing an even moderately overweight person are slim to none.
