Cognitive Walkthrough 3.0 Using the HTA, the analyst performed a “cognitive walk-through” (Rosson & Carroll, 2002). This allowed a comparison to be made between the actual process and what was expected from the HTA, thus identifying any “gulf in execution” (Norman, 1986). Observations made during the walkthrough have been categorised below: Dialogue Design: The site uses an effective “Windows, Icons, Menus and Pointers (WIMP)” dialogue style (Dix et. al. 1998). However the menu labelling was the first cause for concern. In particular headings such as ‘channels’ gave little indication of their contents. In addition the menu on the left hand side of the screen, constantly changes as the user works through the system; consequently the same options are not always available.
