When we hear the word “family” used in daily conversation we do not put much thought into
its definition. We have all grown up in a family of some sort and have all been influenced by members
of our families. However, the actual definition of “family” is not as easily defined as one would
think. ... When is a group of people not considered a family? Who are we
as a society to define what a correct or perfect family is? We can take two different approaches in
defining the family. The first approach is to look at the family based on its structure. Does a group
of genetically similar humans meet our cut-out silhouette of what we see as a family? ...
Looking at the cut-out of the nuclear family from a structure point of view we would have:
a male father, a female mother, and a child or children.
