The Return of the King This book is the third book in the series The Lord of the Rings. Frodo, aware of the danger of the Ring, and determined to keep it out of the hands of the enemy, he and his companions travel into the frightening land of Mordor where Sauron, the creator of the ring, guards the fire where the Ring of Power was forged. The ring was created to control seven other rings that also were created by Sauron. His plan was to make one ring to rule them all. The rings were sent out and given to seven kings which ruled seven separate lands. They kings were not aware of the power of the rings that were given to them. The rings benefited each wearer differently, but not without a cost. There was also a curse upon the rings which slowly corrupted anyone who wore the ring. Because Sauron bore the ring that controlled the seven others, the seven kings became corrupted and eternal servants of Sauron. Sauron’s goal was to take over the world, and now he had the aid of seven key lands.
