Gothic Architecture
Architecture became a popular way to express art during the end of the Middle Ages. It quickly became the primary way of expressing art during the Gothic era. Gothic architecture originated in northern France around the twelfth century. It spread throughout Europe rather quickly and became the dominant form of architecture for cathedrals and other religious buildings. Even though gothic architecture is widely found in religious buildings, there are great mansions from that time period that have many gothic aspects within their architecture as well.
The Gothic era is basically divided up into three main periods. The periods are The Early Gothic Period, the High Gothic Period, and the Rayonnant Gothic Period. The Early Gothic Period spanned from around the 1140’s to the 1170’s.
