Review of EAST IS EAST
In my opinion, East is East is very hilarious and a little dismal. The main theme of this film is a father who tries to carry out more than one fraud on his own sons by disguising marriage arrangements ahead of time. When the family obviously live at a brisk pace in England, however, there is a strong generational and cultural conflict underneath. Because the Pakistani is the minority group, it is lucid that they always have a hard time adapting themselves to a different society. Firsthand experiences are so ample that even People in Taiwan had once had a so-called 228 incident. Moreover, most people watch this movie, probably raising the same empathy to a certain degree because nowadays we still have to face similar disagreements under the roof. I believe if we highly pay attention to others¡¦ pain, we can learn our lesson the easy way. The Father whose first foe was inferiority deemed marrying sons to a pureblooded Pakistani family a ritual to redeem his reputation and possibly his soul.
