There are many poems out there that are related with the history. One of the most famous historical poem is considered to be ¡°O Captain, My Captain,¡± written by Walt Whitman. This poem has relation with Abraham Lincoln when he died. In this poem, I will describe about the meaning of the poem, explain how it relates to historical events, and comment on how the author uses writing techniques to achieve his purpose. This poem is mainly about Abraham Lincoln¡¯s death. In this poem there are three stanzas. Each stanza has different meanings to it. The first stanza is about Abraham Lincoln¡¯s death. Walt Whitman uses the word, ¡°Captain¡± to refer to Lincoln. He also used the words fearful trip, port and ships. The fearful trip means the Civil War, the port means the end of the Civil War and ship means the United States.
