Conduct Disorder Most parents report having some conduct related problems with children at some time or another. However, the "conduct disorder" label may only be warranted if those behaviors are persistent and interrupt on the basic rights of others, if major age-appropriate societal norms are violated, or if there is significant impairment in everyday functioning at home or school. Several theories exist regarding the causes of conduct disorder. These theories include: genetic predispositions, physiological influences, social and familial and environment influences, and individual characteristic, another typical cause for conduct disorder is Trauma. ... The cause of Conduct Disorder is understood to be a combination of genetic vulnerability and environmental factors. It’s very unclear to why certain children have a genetic vulnerability to this disorder. When that weakness is combined with high-risk environmental factors like, poverty, parental neglect, parental alcoholism, parental martial problems, or having a parent with an antisocial personality disorder very much increases the child’s chances of developing conduct disorder. Looking forward from childhood to adulthood, 40 percent of males and 35 percent of females with a diagnosis of conduct disorder in childhood continue to show an antisocial personality disorder later in life. One study concludes “three quarters of children with a clinically significant conduct disorder will go on to exhibit pervasive and persistent social malfunction. ... Young children with conduct disorder have found to have impairment in the frontal lob of the brain, which is an area that affects the ability to plan, to protect them from harm, and to learn from negative consequences. A child with conduct disorder does not respect authority whatsoever, has little regard for the basic rights of others and breaks major societal rules; he or she usually will display aggressive behavior that threatens physical harm or property damage, deceitfulness, theft, truancy or running away from home.
