Somalia engaged in a civil war and the United States called upon soldiers to do their part in helping to keep the peace. Ridley Scott’s film Black Hawk Down is the story of those soldiers’ efforts, sufferings, and losses during that war. In one particular scene, United States soldiers are engaging in a raid of a supposed key building in their operation. Ridley Scott’s combination of sound perspectives, sound bridges and different sound types emphasize the complexity and the exertion of efforts required to carry out an operation of war. Sound perspectives are established at three different locations of the scene, all of which are essential to the operation. At central command, sound perspective is created through alteration in pitch, showing General Garrison’s role in the operation as he listens to reports being called in through walkie-talkie devices.
