(Creative Attention Getter) Imagine, a world fifty years from now…What would it look like to you? To me…I see a thick, dense brown haze on the horizon. I see thousands of deadly chemicals flowing through our rivers and streams, killing our wildlife and contaminating our environment. I see many innocents, such as me, such as you, dying early to various airborne toxins that cause heart, lung, or neurological harm. AK Steel, a nationwide leader in the steel industry, is polluting our backyards with tons of dangerous chemicals and toxins daily. II. (Ethos/Pathos) As fellow resident of Spencer County, I feel obligated to inform each and every one of you about the danger lurking off in the distance. As neighbors, we should be enlightened of the peril that lives nearby that is filling our county with potential health risks. We breathe this air and drink this water everyday. This is essentially why you are here today, sacrificing this beautiful Sunday in June for the confines of this small gymnasium. You are here, sacrificing this positively divine day in an attempt to help us from inadvertently sacrificing our environment. If we continue to let them pollute our air, land, and water, the risks presenting our lives and those of our children will continue to grow. This health concern affects each and every one of us. AK Steel is located in our county and is polluting our environment. It is time now, that we do not allow this huge corporation to fill our air, land, and water with hazardous chemicals and waste. We all value the ideals of self-preservation and the quality of life. Why should we have to sacrifice the health of our families for a number of jobs that represents a fraction of the total population of the county?
