Running head: REDUCING HEALTHCARE DISPARITIES
Reducing Healthcare Disparities and Mortality Among the Hispanic Population
Abstract
The fastest growing population in the United States is the Hispanic community. Addressing their health needs and correcting the alarming disparities within this group is imperative. Hispanic health needs are different from Anglo needs and must be addressed specifically. As these needs are identified our government can move in the direction of meeting the needs of this underserved population.
Reducing Healthcare Disparities and Mortality Among the Hispanic Population
There is overwhelming evidence that a racial disparity exists within health care. As a country, and world leaders, we must clearly identify the problem and develop strategies to reduce and eliminate these disparities. These disparities lead to a higher incidence of health problems and therefore a higher mortality rate for Hispanics. There are 1 million Hispanics in the United States and they are the nation’s fastest growing population (The Economist, 2003)
In the confusing arena of medical care delivery it is difficult for all citizens to understand and navigate the health care system.
