The Taming of Kate
Since this play, The Taming of the Shrew, focuses mainly on the various changing of identities, it is hard to determine who is acting a role and who is in fact original. When William Shakespeare wrote The Taming of the Shrew, he left it up to the reader to answer the inevitable question: Does Kate truly change into an obedient wife by the end of the play, or is she still a shrew? At the beginning of the play, Kate is coping with how she is supposed to act in the late sixteenth century society. By the end of the play, Kate has bettered herself. By Act V, Kate has changed into an enjoyable, respectful wife from a wretched shrew for reason’s that: she altered herself form her false identity from the beginning of the play, Petruchio gave her a chance to be different from her shrewish identity, and most importantly she shoes her true self with her new found love for Petruchio.
