Classical conditioning is a form of learning. It involves associating something such as a feeling with another thing. (As quoted in Eysenck, 2000). A key example of classical conditioning is Ivan Pavlov’s experiment. Pavlov (1846-1936) conducted an experiment showing classical conditioning. He knew that dog’s salivated when they are presented with food. Therefore there was an unconditioned response (salivation) to the unconditioned stimulus (food). Pavlov wanted to get the dog to associate the feeling of the food with another conditioned stimulus. Pavlov wanted to see if he could Pavlov presented a tone just moments before the dog received it’s food. The conditioned stimulus was presented with the unconditioned stimulus, in order to create a conditioned response to the tone.
