Before Lee became a director African Americans found it very difficult to break into filmmaking. Spike Lee was different from any other African American filmmaker, he had a determination like no other person. ... Spike Lee has used his films to help express a point, a point he wanted to make to the whole world. ... ”(Lee, 55) This is evident in three of Spike Lee’s films “Do The Right Thing”, “Jungle Fever”, and “Malcolm X”. The problems Spike Lee is trying to get answered are problems dealing with race relations. All of Lee’s works represent his feeling towards topics such as racism, prejudices, and different race relations. Spike Lee’s films all make very good money and appeal to most of the viewers who are watching them, by him self he has let everyone in the world know of a neglected group of people due to race. To Spike Lee films are his power he believes that with them he has the ability to tackle all the problems that people feel uncomfortable about. The way Spike makes his films is he goes straight for the truth, to him filmmaking is one of the most powerful tools on affecting people thoughts about life. One of Spike Lee earliest films “Do The Right Thing” was the most controversial film of the year it came out. ... This film put American right where Lee wanted them. ... The film took Lee to a new place, the film was said to be an American masterpiece. ... The film “Do The Right Thing” was made to draw a point to deal with race relations within a community, in 1990 Spike Lee released the film “Jungle Fever” that instead explored the mysteries of interracial relationships. ... “Jungle Fever to Spike Lee is unhealthy sexual attraction between the races, for relationships based on stereotypes. ... In slang terms as well the desire for a white women to want a black man is called Jungle fever”(Lee, ). ... Lee doesn’t just leave it to that though, he keeps digging into the characters trying to find ways to bring out the real pain in reality.
