When asked what can be considered as a world masterpiece, many different definitions may arise. My definition of a masterpiece, when talking about literature, is something that has stood the test of time and when you read it, you don’t want to put it down. Stories that have been passed down from one generation to another for numerous of years can also be considered be a masterpiece. Aristotle’s definition of works of art can apply to any piece of literature when trying to see if it can be rated as a masterpiece. ... Books twenty-one and twenty-two of The Odyssey are great examples of a world masterpiece. This story, written by Homer, has many elements of a true masterpiece.
In book twenty-one of the odyssey, Odysseus is at his palace after many years away and he finds numerous of suitors there drinking his wine and eating his food. ...
In book twenty-two of the Odyssey, Odysseus reveals himself to all the suitors and kills Antinoos because he had threatened him earlier for wanting to try to string the bow. ...
These two books are just examples of the type of stories in the entire Odyssey series and are great examples of what masterpieces are made of. When compared to how Aristotle conveys a literary piece of art to be, The Odyssey fits his definitions perfectly.
