The Ring of Gyges In the "Ring of Gyges", Plato writes about how Glaucon tells Socrates about how Gyges took advantage of the ring he had put on his finger. Psychological egoism is the root of Gyges behavior. He did what was in his self-interest and satisfied his self-love by committing adultery with the king's wife. Socrates, however, thought that an ideal society has citizens that like being just not because they do like the consequences of wrong doing. The definition of psychological egoism is the view that we humans always act from a single motive normally, or a self –interest or a self- love.
