Health care is about delivering high-quality, accessible health services that people need. From the time the United States first originated to today, one of the worst things that the U.S government has done is institutionalize the health care system that we have today. The multi-payer system of health care is the worst thing the American government has done since the beginning of the health care system. Barriers to health care access have become overwhelming in the United States. These barriers prevent patients from receiving needed services but also impose fundamental ethical problems for doctors and other health workers who find themselves unable to solve problems that sometimes lead to patients’ deaths and continuing disabilities. Today the U.S is the only economically developed country in which more that a third of the population is uninsured or under-insured. (cite)
Before one can understand the crisis of the multi-payer system, the history of health care needs to be reviewed. Health care is the prevention, treatment, and management of illness and the preservation of mental and physical well-being through the services offered by the medical and allied health professions.( dictionary) There are many factors that have lead to the demise of health care in the United States. Such ideas as capitation (the providing of medical care for a fixed annual fee) and the corporate practice of medicine (medical practices controlled by companies, not by doctors), are actually much older than we might think. ... Contract health care placed too much control in the hands of third party payers, thus threatening all three goals of profit, quality and ethical standards.
Unlike in the 1900’s, where the problems were too much control in the hands of third party payers the problems today lay in financial and organizational issues. ... 80% of physicians’ annual income may be at risk if they do not adequately restrict services under managed care contracts. ...
