Ironic or Not
Ironic or Not? ... On Desiree’s end, she was the ideal and loving wife, however her husband Armand, as it is later discovered, was not so endearing. ... The ironic plot twists provide a lasting effect from both stories, that leaves the reader wondering, “Was this story about love or irony? ... In this story evidence that Armand, may not be the valiant man that Desiree thought he was slowly appears throughout the story. ... This shows his hatred for not only African-American’s with dark skin, but also those with even the tiniest hint of African American in their blood. ... It seems as if Armand had something to hide, and wanted to fall in love so quickly that his bride to be, would not ask questions about his lineage or his plans after marriage. ... Each of these events alludes to the fact that the plot is in for an ironic twist. ... As it has it, the ironic twist comes in the end, when it is revealed that Armand himself is the one with African American blood, not his wife, who had killed her and his only son just weeks before this was revealed. ... In The story of an hour the plot twist was not so easy to determine. ... ” (Chopin 1) This is obviously not true; the irony in this situation is all too obvious. ... Desiree’s Baby and The Story of an Hour are two stories that tell more so a story of true irony, not true love.
