United States Counterterrorism
Terrorism in the United States has been an issue that governments on the federal, state, county, and municipal levels have had to deal with since the birth of our nation. However, since recent events, such as the attack on the USS Cole in Yemen on October 12, 2000 and also the attacks against our homeland on September 11, 2001, the issue of counterterrorism has come to the forefront of our governments agenda (Howard, Sawyer 591). ... Not only does terrorism affect us, but US counterterrorism policy also affects us. It is important for all US citizens to be aware of what that policy is and how it can play a role in our lives. ... Clearly, a strong counterterrorism policy is essential to the security and well being of our nation.
But what exactly does counterterrorism mean? ... Well, counterterrorism, by definition, is any action the government takes to either prevent terrorism from taking place, minimize the damage done by terrorists, or bring those terrorists who carry out or attempt to carry out attacks on us to justice. ...
