He wasn't buying it at 3-1. He wasn't taking the bait at 5-1. And he was accepting no "cheese" when his team sat alone in first place in the NFC East at 8-3. All year long, Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said he would know just how good this Dallas Cowboys team really is after the Thanksgiving Day game. Well here we are, after Thanksgiving, and his team, although staggered a bit by that 40-21 thumping it received from Miami on Thursday, still is right in the middle of NFC playoff picture with an 8-4 record and four games to play. But for the first time since Week Four, the Cowboys no longer sit in first place of the NFC East. That spot now belongs to the streaking Eagles, who have won seven consecutive games, including a hard-fought 25-16 win over Carolina on Sunday to move into first place with a 9-3 record. The Cowboys are the last team to defeat the Eagles, 23-21, back on Oct. 12. While the Eagles won't be able to clinch the division title next Sunday when the Cowboys head to town, they can certainly take a death grip on the NFC East title if they can defeat Dallas to gain a two-game advantage with three games to play. But on the other hand, if the Cowboys can beat Philadelphia on Sunday, something they have not done in Philadelphia since 1998, they would actually jump into the NFC East lead by virtue of having swept the Eagles, even though the two teams would have identical records.
