... Because this state is mixed with so many different cultures, we are now faced with the issues of the Multicultural Education. There are various debates, supports, criticisms, and examinations performed based on the importance of multicultural education. Many people agree with multicultural education and some do not. In both cases, they provide good evidences of the positive and negative affects of multicultural education. However, I myself being an immigrant agree that multicultural education will have a positive affect on the children. Those who are not in favor of the multicultural education have a perspective of multiculturalism as ethnocentrisms. ... In one of the websites, it states that “In reviewing debates on multicultural education, the fact that the United States social and economic system is based on the western tradition is emphasized. ... Another issue in multicultural education is that in general, most teachers are not familiar with the historical facts of other cultures. ... Multicultural education can be influenced by the teacher’s own beliefs and culture. ... Multicultural education is an important aspect of our community and education. It was idealized back in the 1960s and is constantly changing and adapting to the current problems that are brought up in education. Due to so many immigrants and foreigners, the positive development of multicultural education is crucial for the present and future of our country. ... Multicultural education brings up this fact because it is so hard to have a strict defined course to teach students due to the fact that the student backgrounds are so diverse everywhere. ... Multicultural education tries to prepare students to become better citizens of their city, state country and world. Furthermore, multicultural education acknowledges the importance of school and education in preparing and shaping children. Failure to achieve and effective program of education would have a negative effect because proper education is necessary in presenting the foundation for change and improvement in our society. Multicultural studies our history and the mistakes made and tried to correct and redirect our future. ... However, people have realized that multicultural society is unavoidable and that we should accept other cultures. ... With the support for multicultural education, the children are growing up understanding and accepting that not everyone is alike and people should learn to live effectively and in peace with each other.
