Machiavelli and Virtue

Dictionary you will find the definition of virtue to be: strength; conformity to a standard

of right; a particular moral excellence. Plato believed in just rulers who rule by moral

virtue which is he believed virtue included justice and courage as well. ... Machiavelli on the other hand feels that virtue is doing what is best for the state. This

is not to say that he is a disbeliever in the moral aspect of virtue he simply believes that if

it is in the best interests of the prince and his city then it is feasible to let go of moral

thinking and commit wrongdoing.

One distinct example of Machiavellian virtue is in that of cruelty well done. ...

Another example of Machiavellian virtue is with his outlook toward generosity.

Machiavelli believes that generosity should be hidden to be practices with skill. ...

A third example of Machiavellian virtue is his belief that it is better to be feared

rather than loved. ... Machiavelli suggests that taking a man’s fathers’ life is looked

better upon than taking his hard earned money.
