Teaching Multiplication to Middle School Students with Mental Retardation Teaching mathematics to many students is a difficult task for many teachers, never mind teaching it to students with mental retardation. Next to reading, math is probably one of the hardest subjects for students with mental retardation to learn. Most of the strategies researchers have come up with focus on students with learning disabilities. One of the things researchers found to be very successful, is the use of the concrete-representational-abstract (CRA) ad some unexpected events come up and I did not get as far as I wanted to get with the practice test but here what I have so far. Good Luck on the test Monday. Let me know if you got this information. Thanks, James 1. Discuss the types of hormones based on chemical makeup? 2. Name the three types of amino acid based hormones? A. Altered Amino Acid B. Peptides (short amino acid Chains small proteins) C. Protein Macromolues 3. Name the characteristic of steroid based hormones A. lipid soluble B. Includes the Gonad hormones secreted by ovaries and testes C. Includes the Adrenocortical hormones secreted by Adrenal Cortex 4. Discuss the mechanism of hormone action? (1). Secondary Messenger systems- proteins and peptide based hormones (2). Direct gene activation - steroids 1. The hormones can have the following affects on target cells A. Hormones can stimulate the opening or closing of ion channels of the cell membrane B. Protein Synthesis (Can cause protein synthesis) C. Deactivate or Activate Enzymes (due to phosphoralation of enzymes adding a phosphate group to enzyme) D. Secretion started E. Mitosis and Meiosis (correct spelling) 2. Secondary Messenger System - proteins and peptides are too large to pass through the cell Membrane, they rely on activiting their receptor on the target cell. 5. Discuss the steps involved in the Secondary Messenger System? a. the hormone attaches to the cell membrane and activates a receptor on the target cell b. the receptor activates a secondary messenger that is a chemical that is released as a result of the hormone binding to the receptor on the membrane cell wall. c. a example of this is cyclic adensoine monophosphate (cAMP) 1.
