King’s Nonviolent Campaign for Civil Rights
Many people who are racist and prejudiced believe that Martin Luther King’s actions were unacceptable, wrong, and intolerable. These people would have never accepted the way King went about trying to gain Civil Rights for himself and others who were being segregated. ... King states, “Several Months ago the affiliate here in Birmingham asked us to be called to engage in a nonviolent direct action program if such were deemed necessary” (154). ... The new administration of Birmingham has the same feelings about blacks and civil rights as the old administration. ... All the people who are prejudiced and racist did not want to see King succeed in his nonviolent direct action. However, I believe that King’s actions were appropriate for the time and the best way to try to gain his civil rights.
