Even though there are characters that did nothing wrong, and though they may have a need or a reason to feel sadness and loss, there is no reason for feeling sorry. King Lear causes the entire tragedy in the play, by sending the one daughter that truly cares for him away. This is because Lear, as the king, is too absorbed with himself to realize that Cordelia is not in contempt of his court, but is actually showing her honesty and concern for her lords well being. To this extent Lear is ignorant to the consequences of his actions, and therefore should not be made to feel guilt for this miss judgment. ... This should by all means not only justify his ignorance, but also allow Lear to get his life back on track. ... If ignorance is a good reason to have no need for feeling sorry, than a strong case can be made for Hidetora from “Ran”.
