Football is a sport that is mainly played in the United States of America. This sport has been around for over 100 years and many people do not understand the rules or the set up of the game. One thing that some people also don't understand is the different positions players can play in the game. There are 11 different players on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and they have different jobs. The Quarterback is the director of the offense. Almost every offensive play of the game he touches the ball. Depending on the play call, which is usually called by the Head Coach or Offensive Coordinator, the quarterback can throw, run, or hand off the ball. In the National Football League if a quarterback throws for 300 or more yards in a game he had a great game. Quarterbacks usually wear the numbers one through 19. Running backs have to be strong, fast, and agile. There are two different types of running backs. The Tailback or Halfback, depending on the formation, is the back who usually gets the ball. A tailback usually runs off tackle because of his speed. The other back in the backfield is the Fullback. He is usually more powerful that the tailback and is mainly used as a blocking back or lead blocker.
