Each Life Alone
The poetic work, “Pigeon Woman”, is very personal in its ability to show the dynamics of age and loneliness, and trite pursuits to stop either or both. ... Portrayed as all alone, one cannot help but see the pitiful state of such a lonely routine. The basis of the story within the whole poem is that this routine drives the pigeon lady forward each day to meet the doves. ... ” This shows Yeats’ own familiarity with the theme of “treat the motley” (32) This also proves that Swenson’s style in the poem was well thought out to convey the reality of the loneliness many people tend to struggle with, in any point of their life.
The message of the poem conveys that life has its own way of making us feel as if we were alone as the woman in this poem. Whatever situation one is in now, or has come from, there is always a point in his/her life in which they truly feel alone.
