At the end of the play Macbeth, Malcolm calls Lady Macbeth a “fiend-like queen”. By saying this I believe that Malcolm is endeavouring to denote Lady Macbeth’s evilness and he is attempting to portray her maliciousness and ruthlessness through his choice of words. But this is the opinion of Malcolm and I think the audience sees many different sides to Lady Macbeth’s character throughout the play. Many people have disparate views on the portrayal of Lady Macbeth. This is the reason that in some adaptations of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth’s character is much more diverse than you would imagine her to be because of the director’s or actor’s own interpretation of the character. In the adaptation “Macbeth on the estate” we are given an emotive view of lady Macbeth grieving for the loss of her baby, which there isn’t any real proof of in the original text.
