Robert Herrick’s poem “To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time” was written with the urgency that love should not be delayed because time is so short. ... Flowing in and out of each line ending with “You may for ever tarry,” portraying the main influence of the poem, to make much of time and not delay what can be done today.
In the first stanza, the speakers assertive approach to seize the day is supported with the phrases “gather ye rose-buds while ye may / Old Time is still a-flying” it places the reader in a frame of mind that time stands still for no one, what was once here today could be gone tomorrow.
