Introduction: The purpose of this project was to design a system that had two modes of operation: ALU mode and a counter mode. The code was written in VHDL and the PLD used was the Cyprus CY128P84 chip. A DIP switch was used to toggle between the two different modes. In the ALU mode, there were two three bit words (the S-word and the R-word) used as operands and there was a three bit word (I-word) used to input the instructions for the ALU. There were seven possible instructions that the ALU could perform including adding, subtracting, and performing various logic operations such as AND, OR, XOR, and NOT.
