In solitude, people are presumed to become more mindful of the world around them. Being in detachment from the world and its distractions is supposed to help one to value the substance of their own life. Th Ralph Waldo Emerson, being in seclusion from the world, made him very mindful of himself as a person. Seclusion can help you come together as person. Emerson writes "...but all natural objects make a kindred impression, when the mind is open to their influence" (277). Which means that a person cannot just go out into the wilderness by themself and expect some kind of spiritual awakening. A person's mind must be receptive to the environment around them. Withdrawal helps people become more responsive to their surroundings and be more apprehensive of what things in life really mean to them. The importance of being alone is that solitude can help most people realize what kind of person that they really are. People will be able to find themselves in solitude. When people are alone, the only focus becomes themself.
