The Mystery of King Tutankhamen
During the time of the Eighteenth Dynasty there was a young boy who ruled over Egypt. His name was Tutankhamen (Tut). Many people refer to him as the boy king. ... The evidence found inside Tut’s tomb has answered many questions, but many still remain. The story of King Tut is the greatest Egyptian legend and mystery to be unraveled.
King Tut was a young boy when he came to power. ... From the artifacts found in his tomb, archaeologists were able to put together a possible perspective of what King Tut was like as a child. From this information they concluded that Tut had no great interest in formal education, but he loved the active life such as hunting ( El Mahdy 99). From childhood, King Tut would have soldier’s kilts and equipment made for him, he may have even carried out one campaign as a soldier in action ( El Mahdy 101). ... It is believed that Tut is the son of Akhenaten and his second wife Kiya (Weeks 146). ... Akhenaton died around the age of thirty, and Egypt was left without a King (Current Events 2).
Around the age of seven or eight Tut married Ankhesenpaaten, the third daughter of Akhenaton and his first wife Nefertiti (Weeks 146). ... Tut and Ankhesenpaaten lost two children before they were born ( El Mahdy 254).
Tut inherited the throne of Luxor Egypt at the age of nine, three years after Akhenaton’s death ( Current Events 2). ... Even though there were no wars during Tut’s reign, Tut had major problems with the people of Egypt wanting to bring back the other gods that Akhenaton had forbidden (Brier 84-86). Halfway through his reign Tut bowed to pressure and restored the old religion and replaced the Sun God Aton with Amen (Current Events 2). ...
King Tut reigned for only nine years and died suddenly at the age of eighteen (Brier 157). Scientists today have combined crime-investigation techniques with Hollywood special effects skills to re-create Tut’s face--to their surprise, it didn’t look anything like the mask on his tomb (Current Events 4). Tut was a handsome young man with a slight build and about five feet six inches tall (Brier 157). ...
