Gonorrhea, most people dont really know what kind of disease this is, or what exactly the bacteria causing it is. According to an article on the internet web-site eMedicine,Gonorrhea is a purulent inflammation of the mucous membrane surfaces caused by a sexually transmitted microorganism, Neisseria gonorrhea. ...
As an article, "Sexually Transmitted Diseases",stated, gonorrhea is often referred to as clap or drip, but the scientific name of the bacteria that causes the actual infection is Neisseria gonorrhea. Just like the article "Gonorrhea" on the eMedicine website stated, gonorrhea bacteria are infastidious organisms that require a moist carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere, therefore they can live in virtually any mucous membrane, but are found commonly, inside the eyelids, the mouth, the rectum, and the penis or vagina. Since gonorrhea is a gonococcal infection, I can conclude from the information I have learned in class, that it is spherical in shape, and according to an article titled, "Bacteria of Medical Importance", the neisseriae are small, Gram-negative cocci, usually seen in pairs with flattened adjacent sides.According to an article, titled " Bacteria: Life, History and Ecology" on the Berkeley educational website, gonorrhea grow best at body temperature, and are therefore referred to as mesophiles; which include all human pathogens and opportunists.
