Reflection (Far and Away) Far and Away portrayed the immigrant experience effectively. It showed how immigrants were lost in America and needed help, which was provided in some cases by the political officers. This help was the political machine, because once the immigrants started off on their new life they were required to vote for a specific party in the coming election. While the immigrants worked for very low wages, they were making a living, and most of all them were somewhat proud to be a part of this new exciting experience. In the movie the young man is enjoying his new life because in some ways it is easier than his old one back home. Latter on in the movie the man decides that if he prize fights he will be able to make a better living than he is in the chicken factory. This turns out to be true because he is bringing home more money than he knows what to do with, so he spends some on hats.
