Alienation Alienation is the process of separating the body from the mind. In Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka depicts Gregor Samsa as a bug who in reality is just a crazy man thinking he is a giant bug. He leaves his own body, and thinks he is a bug, or at least has the mentality of a bug. He becomes alienated, or detached from his normal, human lifestyle. As a bug, Gregor does not feel that he needs to be unified with people, or more however anything other than crazy maniacs like himself. Another example of Gregor as an alienated person is how he thinks he is better than everyone at his work place as a traveling salesman.
