The sequence begins with a dissolve to a low angle shot on Matto on the trapeze, high in the air. He is spinning around the trapeze bar, wearing striped black and white pants, a black jacket (like a suit jacket) angel wings, and a black shirt. There is internal music coming from the circus scene. Also, in the background, there is a spotlight on Matto with a wreath of 7 lights in a circle above the trapeze. The spotlight casts a shadow on the left-hand side of the inside of the tent. The cut goes to flat-angle shot of Gelsomina, Zampano, and an elderly clown on the right, the same man who was at the circus when Gelsomina and Zampano showed up. Gelsomina is wearing a black derby hat and is painted like a clown. She is wearing a striped shirt and a dark jacket. Gelsomina is looking up at Matto as if she is worried for his safety. She has her fists pumping like she is egging him on to do well. Zampano is in the middle, a bit farther back with a chain in his hands going over one shoulder to his opposite hand. He is getting ready for his act as he looks up a Matto with a disconcerting face. The man on the right is also dressed like a clown, having some of his face painted and also wearing a jacket. It’s a close-up shot and the music is continuous. Another cut occurs and goes to two men, also part of the act. This is a close, flat shot also, including spectators in the back. The man on the right is dressed as a clown with a small hat on and painted face. The man on the left is riding a small horse and is dressed in a black, replicating something like a cowboy. He is yelling in exuberance at Matto and the act. It then cuts back to Matto, as a low angle shot and shows him spin one more time then drop from the trapeze.
