85% of murders are committed by men, 99.8% of rape cases involve men as the perpetrators. These percentages and others stated in the video, “Tough Guise” were alarming but believable. In our society we see a “real” man as someone who is strong, aggressive, and independent. A “real” man would never cry at a movie or show vulnerability. The general idea of masculinity imposed on us by the society in which we live is limiting and detrimental. The first example, shown in this video, of the front that guys put up was the wizard in the Wizard of Oz. It shows the fact that this “great and powerful” wizard was actually a very nervous man hiding behind a “mask.” The host of this video goes on to show how this is a accurate portrayal of how most men are because they have learned that this is how they are supposed to be.
