Dian Fossey made huge progress in researching the nearly extinct Mountain Gorilla in Africa’s Congo. She experienced many difficulties, including imprisonment, rape, and eventually, murder, all in the name of protecting a magnificent species of gorilla from extinction. An admirable trait that she possessed was extreme determination. She knew exactly what she wanted, and wasn’t afraid to go after it. This determination was often viewed as a downfall by her colleagues. She had a tendency to order people around, and it didn’t bother her that these people (who she viewed as her slaves) were more qualified scientists than she was. When Dian Fossey first went out into the jungle, she hadn’t had any training, and she lacked the experience that would normally be a requirement.
