One single very important issue our fathers considered when writing the Constitution was the inborn nature of the human race. It is evident from The Federalist Papers that they recognized a single trait of human nature as the most important: depravity. ... They were convinced that all members of the human race would be more inclined to evil than to good, and that a government should be designed to restrain them. ... Alexander Hamilton, in Federalist No. ... They met to improve the federal government to have better control over its subjects, better control of the deficiencies of human nature. John Jay comments in Federalist No. ... ” We can see from this that our founding fathers were fully cognizant of the fact that the government they were establishing was not for perfect people; it was for a depraved human race.
