For our book report, I chose to read Luke Sullivan’s, “Hey Whipple, Squeeze This: A Guide to Creating Great Ads. ... Whipple, Charmin’s toilet paper spokesman. He spoke of how much he and the rest of America could not stand the annoying, irritating, old man who constantly appeared on televisions across the world saying, “Please don’t squeeze the Charmin”. ... Whipple so much, was Charmin’s toilet paper number one in sales? ... Whipple to Sullivan is like Dave the Futon King to me. ... Whipple and Dave the Futon King are such familiar and recognizable faces and voices that it is so hard to think of anything other then Charmin’s when asked about toilet paper, and The Futon Store when asked about futons. ... Whipple was a terrific salesman and a strong brand image, all in all, he wasn’t a good idea. ... Whipple campaign to Luke Sullivan and Dave the Futon King campaign to me, may have increased sales, but overall were just not that good. ... When seeing a normal person in a commercial buying toilet paper, the audience becomes more in touch and familiar because they realize that hey, they look like me and they need toilet paper too. ... My favorite part of “Hey Whipple, Squeeze This” is when Sullivan describes the people who work in the advertising agency who he just can’t stand. ... They seem to have a certain walk, a certain voice, a certain way they carry themselves that basically says, “Hey I’m here and I’m better then you”. ... Those are just a few of the highlights of Luke Sullivan’s “Hey Whipple, Squeeze This” book that I found to be the most interesting. ... “Hey Whipple, Squeeze This: A Guide to Creating Great Ads” was a wonderful, informative book by Luke Sullivan that was real and honest.
