Encouraging Desires or Reducing Risks? A small child is sitting in front of the television during the late afternoon watching a talk show. Suddenly the talk show scene fades out and changes to a scene showing a camel character with a cigarette in its mouth promoting the purchase of the cigarettes. Year in and year out the child views several dozen of these types of commercials that interrupt his daily television programming; so, it is only natural that as he got older he became a regular smoker. He has tried to quite but cannot find the will power to do so; he is addicted. What started out as innocent television viewing as a child has led to his abuse and addiction of cigarettes. Time and time again, the use of tobacco has been proven to be both addictive and one of the leading causes of death. Although it is true that tobacco is a deadly product, I believe that it should not be banned, but should have stricter restrictions placed on the companies.
