Filmic Elements of Vertigo
Vertigo was a 1958 Alfred Hitchcock film where many filmic elements were used to contribute to the mood of the film. These elements include camera positioning, camera angles, camera lenses, camera movement, lighting, montage, and sound. Hitchcock brilliantly used many of these elements to create a mood which viewers would experience when watching Vertigo. Although there are many filmic elements that contribute to the films mood, camera positioning, colour, and lighting are three elements that Hitchcock uses very well in several scenes of this film. ... The combination of these filmic elements gives the viewers a feeling of warmth and comfort as the romance of Scottie and Madeline unfolds.
So far, Hitchcock uses these three filmic elements to portray positive feelings for the viewer. But he also uses these same filmic elements to give the viewers a feeling of chaos, despair, and fear.
