Nuclear fission is one of the most significant scientific breakthroughs of the twentieth century. After almost half a century of nuclear stand-off, the US and Russia (formerly USSR) are defusing the cold war by destroying almost all of these dangerous weapons. Now a new threat is looming: nuclear terrorism. The global community must prevent nuclear weapon materials and information from falling into the hands of terrorists who wish to “…become death, the destroyer of worlds (Aldridge 18).”
