Hildegard of Bingen, is the daughter of Hildebert and Mechtild, was born near Alzey, western Germany in 1098. As Hildegard’s parents had been members of the nobility, they promised to consecrate their tenth child to the church as a young child. ... At the age of fifteen, Hildegard took the veil and succeeded Jutta as Mother Superior in 1136. Sometime between 1147 and 1150, Hildegard of Bingen founded a monastery on the Rupertsberg, in the Rhine valley near Bingen and settled there with 18 sisters. ...
