Introduction Human is the essential and central studying objective in social science. Human behaviour has a dynamic relationship with social development, since human behaviour lead to social phenomenon. ... Naturalisitic approach recourseing natural laws, uses natural science methods and view to explain human behaviour; Interpretative approach recourseing social rules, understands the meanings behinds human action and finds out social rules. In this paper, the difference between natural laws and social rules is going to be stated firstly, then, a comparison on naturalistic and interpretative approaches will be made. Finally, I will explore the implication of these two approaches for social science. Difference between natural laws and social rules Before discussing the difference between natural laws and social rules, it is necessary to understand what they are:natural laws are laws to guide the functioning in physical world, such as Newton¡¦s laws, and, social rules, not only referring to written or formal regulation, but unstated culture norms, conventions, give meanings and expectation to human behaviour. Natural laws are independent of human agency, in other words, human cannot manipulate natural law. Natural laws have already existed, and let human to discover. Conversely, social rules are a human creation. ... Social rules are meaningless without human consensus. Moreover, social rules have capacity for human obey, violate or change. ... But, human have no choice but to obey natural laws, for example, sun rises from the east, regardless of their preference conversely. Furthermore, natural laws are value free, descriptive statement obtained by the observation. ... In contrast, social rules are value-laden, prescriptive. Social rules vary from place to place under different culture, region and time, so every society has own social rules. As natural laws are falsified by counter-evidence, or, further and new observation, if one existing law is falsified, a new law will substitute for. ... But, social rules are unlike natural laws that they can still be in force even it is violated by other rules, so alternatives rules are developed and compatible with. ...
