On the questions of immigration policy, opinions range from “open door” advocates of free immigration to “closed door” advocates of zero immigration. ... It is important to keep United States as open as possible to people who come here as friends, while slamming the door against enemies. It would be a shame, if we closed the door to immigrants who come here to work, save and build a better life for themselves and their families. ... Given all of these contributions, closing the door to immigrants who migrate to the United States in search of work, to save money, and to build a better life for themselves and their families cannot be the right answer. ... The United States needs to control and tighten its borders to keep out anyone who intends to cause its people harm through terror or other malicious acts. ... In my view, the weaknesses in the system do not stem from allowing too many people in, but rather the government’s failure to keep the bad people out. ... Yet we must recognize that enemies of this country will continue to find ways to exploit the weaknesses of such an open society.
